A Wart That Wouldn't Heal for 10 Years — Finally Gone in 8 Months
A woman in her mid-thirties came to us with a single plantar verruca (common wart) on the sole of her right foot.
Despite receiving treatment at another clinic for ten years, it never healed. She first visited our clinic last September.
Ten years. Honestly, I was stunned.
The Course of Treatment
In cases like this, it's not uncommon for patients to visit only about once a month — or even less. But this patient was remarkably dedicated, and kept coming in on a regular basis.
Since her previous clinic had been treating the wart with a cotton swab application, we switched to a spray method and added monochloroacetic acid. Later, we also introduced Yokuinin (a herbal medicine derived from Job's tears) as an oral supplement.
For a while, there was simply no response — and a sense that maybe this one just wasn't going to heal began to creep in. Then, in February of this year, we finally started to see the wart shrinking.
Just when things were looking up, a new wart appeared at a different site.
I silently hoped she wouldn't lose heart — and she didn't. She kept coming in faithfully, and eight months after starting treatment at our clinic, she was fully healed.
The joy on her face meant everything to me and our entire staff.
Thoughts on Treating Warts
A few things I've come to believe through years of treating warts:
① Large or multiple warts are particularly difficult to treat The bigger or more numerous the warts, the more time and persistence the treatment requires.
② Patients who ask "Why isn't it healed yet?" are often the ones who skip appointments At our clinic, we provide a written explanation at the first visit and ask patients to sign it — because consistent attendance really does make all the difference.
③ Please take wart treatment seriously I completely understand that school, sports, and work keep everyone busy. But warts are easy to underestimate. Prioritizing your treatment appointments can dramatically change the outcome.
It was a long road — but this case reminded me once again of how much it means when a patient refuses to give up.
